It's been a good couple of months radio silence on the blog, so I figured it would be about time to make a small update on our journeys through summer. The obvious reason for the lack of reporting is, that we've both been busy working in our summer jobs for the past months since our return from Cyprus.
In fact, we did not return directly to Finland from Cyprus, but we made a small, short and extremely pleasant detour through England (that is now struggling with the idiocy of looting and rioting mobs - I do appreciate that there are social problems, but this is never going to solve any part of any problem, quite the opposite). The main reason for coming to Finland through England in the beginning of June was to visit some dear friends we made during our long stay in there during the summer 2010. The visit was made all the more convenient due to the fact that we managed to find flights from Cyprus London and a few days later from London to Helsinki for cheaper price than we would've been able to travel directly from CY to FIN. A curious little detail was, that flying British Airways from London to Finland was actually cheaper than either of the so-called low-cost carriers available at the time (Ryaniar and easyJet, out of which the latter later in the summer ceased to operate the London-Helsinki route). Of course this was due to the lucky offer that BA happened to have, but it is still a good reminder of the fact that when looking for a flight bargain, it is always wise to explore all the options and alternative routes. Low-cost carriers are fine as well, but sometimes one can find cheaper (never mention better quality) alternatives among the offers of the traditional airlines. Not that I have too much bad to say about the quality of easyJet, and my only real problem with the Ryanair is the massive difference between the quoted price and what one actually ends up paying after all the extras, but at least BA offers you a proper luggage allowance, sandwich and a drink...
Indeed, our short visit to Southern England was an extremely nice. We got to spend time with friends, learn to know Southampton a tad better and even made a visit to the beautiful Arundel Castle. If you are interested in castles and ever happen to be in the area, it is a place worth visiting.
Perhaps the best consequence of the visit was, however, that while we were visiting them, our friends booked flights to visit us in Finland, and subsequently the four of us spent a magnificent week in July here in the land of white summer nights and thousands of lakes. We toured around the country a bit and even managed to fit in a day visit to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, which is a short ferry ride away from Helsinki. I believe it is safe to say that we all had a great time!
Otherwise the summer has passed rapidly and now we are waiting for another visit, when some friends (including our one-year.old Godson) are coming over from O's native country in a couple of weeks.
As a final note I can reveal that we have also made plans and flight bookings for exciting and exotic future adventures, that are to take place in December. I am not going to disclose any more information in here for the time being, but do come visit the blog site closer to the end of the year, when (at the latest) we will remove the shroud of mystery further :) Of course, I do hope we will find it in ourselves to update the blog also in the nearer future.
I.
